Who is eligible for membership?

SEG Employees
Safeway LAFCU's field of membership consists of over 200 different sponsor companies. We refer to these sponsor companies as Select Employee Groups (SEGs). All employees of these SEGs are eligible for membership at Safeway LAFCU. To find out if the company you work for is a Safeway LAFCU SEG, please contact the credit union or check with your benefits plan administrator.

Family Members
Another way you can become a member of Safeway LAFCU is through family affiliation. If an immediate member of your family belongs to the credit union, then you too are eligible for membership at Safeway LAFCU. Eligible family members include parents, brothers and sisters, spouses, and siblings.

Vons Employees
If you are a Vons employee currently working at a former Safeway store or facility, then you are eligible for membership at Safeway LAFCU. To find out if the Vons store or facility you work for was formerly Safeway, contact the credit union.

Select Employee Group Company Eligibility
If you are the owner or president of a business or corporation that is located within a 25-mile radius of the credit union, you can apply to become a sponsor company of Safeway LAFCU and offer your employees the benefit of having a credit union. Credit union affiliation is a risk-free, no-cost benefit for you, the employer, but an absolute invaluable asset that will enhance your employee benefits package.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor company, please contact our marketing department for a New Sponsor Company Questionnaire. Simply complete the questionnaire and return it to us along with a letter requesting membership affiliation. This letter must be on your company letterhead, and be signed by the owner or president of the company. Upon receipt of your completed questionnaire and letter, your request will be presented to NCUA for approval. Thank you in advance for your interest.

How to Join

Once you have determined eligibility, simply complete an application for membership and return it to the credit union along with a minimum $5.00 deposit to your savings account. The different options available for signing up are listed below. Remember, only those who join can share in the benefits of membership.

By Mail
You can request a membership application to be mailed to your home address by calling the credit union at (562) 864-2524 or e-mail us at mail@safewaylafcu.org.

If the company you work for is one of our SEGs (Select Employee Groups), then you can request an application for membership from your employer. See your benefits plan coordinator or human resources representative.

Office Visit
You can also apply for membership by visiting the credit union office at 12366 Firestone Blvd., Norwalk, CA, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. See our new accounts representative or pick up an membership application in our lobby.

Lifetime Membership

Once you become a member, you remain a member for life. Whether you move, change jobs, or retire, your membership status will not be affected. All you have to do is maintain an active balance of one share ($5.00) in your savings account.
